About 1st Beetley Scout Group

Since 1962. Same field. Same idea.

We're 1st Beetley — a Scout Group of about 60 young people, run by parents and locals, in a hut that smells faintly of old camp coffee. We've been here over sixty years. We plan to stick around.

Our story
1st Beetley was founded in 1962 by a small group of parents who wanted somewhere their children could learn knots, light fires, and stay out of trouble. Sixty-odd years later, we've added a few permanent buildings and a lot more risk assessments — but the idea is exactly the same. Today, we're four sections strong (Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts), supported by a Group Council of trustees, a rota of parent helpers, and a small army of grandparents who turn up whenever there's a working party. We're part of **Central Norfolk District** and **Norfolk County Scouts**, but day-to-day we run ourselves: our own hut, our own rota, our own approach.

You don't have to be Bear Grylls

Tea-makers, idea-havers, garage-rummagers — we'll find you a job that fits.

For as little or as much time as you can spare. Most of our volunteers are parents who didn't think they'd end up here either.
