Twelve Scouts spent Saturday at Whitlingham Broad learning to canoe. The conditions were described as “brisk” by the instructors and “absolutely freezing” by everyone else.
Three boats, four capsizes (one intentional, three very much not), one very wet leader, and a mallard who positioned herself directly in the path of the beginner course and refused to move for twenty minutes.
Everyone came home dry. Eventually. Mostly.
A huge thank you to the Whitlingham Outdoor Education team for putting up with us, and to the parents who brought towels.
